Producer
In 1993, the Álvarez family, of Vega-Sicilia fame, established Bodegas Tokaj Oremus. The vineyards are spread over more than a dozen different hillside sites, of which ten were classified ‘primæ classis’ in 1803. Here the group is able to produce exceptional white wines, both dry Furmints and sweet Aszú styles, from 3 puttonyos up to the mythical Eszencia. All present the region’s unique combination of succulence and tang, and together showcase the amazing versatility of Furmint grown in this historic location.
Vineyard
The grapes come from vines with an average age of 25 years, with clonal selections made from the 50-year-old Petrács vineyard. Vines are planted at a high density of 5,660 plants per hectare at around 200 metres above sea level. Harvest was carried out by hand and began in the first week of September.
Winery
After gentle pressing, fermentation was carried out half in stainless steel tanks and half in Hungarian oak barrels. 70% of the wine was then aged for a further six months, with weekly bâtonnage carried out for the first three months.
