Description

San Simon DOP Smoked is 1kg of Magus Birch Smoked San Simón DOP, the iconic Galician cone-shaped cheese birch-smoked to a golden amber rind. San Simon DOP smoked is one of Spain’s most distinctive artisan cheeses. As a result, DOP guarantees genuine Galician origin and traditional birch smoking. Furthermore, the teardrop cone makes this one of the most visually dramatic board cheeses. In particular, the smoke is aromatic and sweet rather than overpowering.

About San Simon DOP Smoked

We source Spanish artisan cheese from specialist producers across Castile, Asturias and Galicia. In particular, Spain’s DOP designations are among the strictest in Europe. As a result, a DOP cheese reflects genuine place and artisan craft. Furthermore, Manchego, Cabrales and San Simón each carry an irreplaceable character. However, style and texture vary considerably with age. In particular, semi-soft, semi-cured and cured stages offer very different eating experiences. Additionally, pairing with Spanish wines and charcuterie brings out the best in every cheese. That combination of protected origin and artisan craft defines every Spanish cheese we offer. That is why this product from The Artisan Food Company consistently impresses even the most discerning cheese lovers.

Why Choose San Simon DOP Smoked From Us

Using Manchego well rewards understanding how age shapes character. In contrast to fully cured Manchego, younger stages are creamier with a gentler flavour. As a result, semi-soft and semi-cured versions suit those who prefer a milder profile. Furthermore, all Manchego melts cleanly and suits warm preparations as well as the board. However, even the youngest Manchego retains the distinctive sheep’s milk nuttiness. In particular, the herringbone rind pressed by the traditional esparto grass mould is the mark of authentic DOP Manchego. Moreover, aged Manchego develops crystalline tyrosine spots and a deeper concentrated flavour. Additionally, the 250g portion is ideal for a cheese board for four to six. That DOP quality and traditional method define every Manchego in this range.

How to Serve San Simon DOP Smoked

To get the very best from it:

  • Serve at room temperature after 30 minutes, sliced cleanly from the distinctive cone shape.
  • Melt in slices over toasted bread or in a gratin where the gentle smoke creates an outstanding result.
  • Furthermore, use on a cheese board as the striking visual centrepiece alongside milder varieties.
  • Additionally, pair with good honey and crusty bread where the smoky-sweet combination shines.

Perfect Pairings

This product pairs beautifully with:

  • Good honey and crusty Galician bread for the most complementary preparation.
  • A glass of Albaríño or Godello — the great Galician white wines — alongside.
  • Galician lacón or chorizo on a Spanish sharing board.
  • Apple slices, grapes or quince paste on the cheese board.

Storage: Keep refrigerated, wrapped in wax paper. Furthermore, hard cheese keeps for 3 to 4 weeks once cut if well wrapped. However, always serve at room temperature — remove from the fridge 30 minutes before. Delivered chilled and ready to serve.

However you serve it, San Simon DOP Smoked brings a character that only genuine artisan cheese can deliver. Moreover, great cheese always rewards good bread, the right wine and serving at room temperature.

Cow milk cheeses are as varied and rich as the producers who make them around the world. Starting with a base of rich, mild cow’s milk, cheesemakers
then let their imaginations loose to create cheeses that can be creamy and sweet, hard and salty, and everything in between.
