Producer
Having honed his winemaking skills around the globe, Quinta da Cassa’s winemaker Rui Madeira has returned to the land of his birth to work with the indigenous varieties and spectacular vineyards of the Douro. The estate is found in the upper Douro, on the river ́s left bank, amongst the grade-a vineyards where the best vintage ports are made. Here the combination of old vines and high altitudes give his wines the balance, poise and sense of place that is so often lacking in the region.
Vineyard
The grapes come from old vineyards with an average altitude of 550 metres, planted on the schist soils of the upper Douro.
Winery
The grapes were hand picked into fifteen kilogram boxes and following gentle crushing, the must was fermented under temperature controlled conditions, partially in stainless steel at 16 oC and partially in used French oak whilst undergoing regular battonage. Following this, the wine was aged for a further six months in French and American oak before bottling.
