Producer
In 1972 brothers Giuseppe and Pierino Bisci bought their first fifteen hectares in the heart of the Marche, which they immediately set about replanting, although it was another ten years before they produced their first bottle of wine. The estate, now run by Giuseppe’s son Mauro, has expanded to twenty-five hectares, twenty of which are under vine, all of which are within the Verdicchio di Matelica DOC. The focus on quality is the guiding principle – perhaps the greatest testament to this is the fact that by the time Bisci release their Verdicchio, most of the DOC’s production will have already been consumed.
Vineyard
The twenty-five-year-old vineyards are planted on south facing slopes at an altitude of 300-350 metres, on calcarous-clay soils. The grapes were harvested by hand at the end of September, with strict bunch selection in the vineyard.
Winery
After gentle crushing, the juice from the first pressing was fermented using selected yeasts in temperature controlled cement vats. The wine was then aged for a further eight months in cement with a final two months in bottle before release.
