Producer
Belarmino focuses on small-scale, terroir-driven wines from Galicia, working primarily with indigenous varieties such as Mencía. The estate philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention, handwork in the vineyards and preserving the distinctive character of Ribeira Sacra’s dramatic landscapes. Production is limited, emphasising quality and a strong sense of place over volume.
Vineyard
Ribeira Sacra is famed for its vertiginous, terraced vineyards that cling to the slopes of the Sil and Miño river gorges. The Mencía vines for O Mouro grow on steep, hand-tended plots with predominantly slate and schist soils. These rocky terraces store heat during the day and release it at night, helping grapes ripen, while the cool Atlantic-influenced climate retains freshness and aromatic intensity. Old vines, low yields and difficult manual work in the terraces all contribute to the wine’s concentration and mineral backbone.
Winery
Grapes are picked by hand, sorted carefully and fermented with gentle extraction to avoid harsh tannins. Indigenous yeasts are often used to reflect the natural character of the vineyards. Ageing takes place in stainless steel and/or older barrels, focusing on finesse rather than overt oak influence. The result is a vibrant, medium-bodied Mencía with fine tannins, lifted aromatics and a distinctive sense of Galician terroir.
