Producer

Umani Ronchi is one of the reference estates of the Marche and Abruzzo regions, family-run since the 1950s and renowned for meticulous work with Verdicchio and Montepulciano. Over several generations, the Bianchi-Bernetti family has invested heavily in vineyard selection, low-impact farming and fine-tuning each parcel, helping Verdicchio achieve recognition as one of Italy’s great white grapes.

Vineyard

Vecchie Vigne (“old vines”) is sourced from some of Umani Ronchi’s oldest Verdicchio vineyards in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi Classico zone. The vines, many decades old, grow on sloping hillsides with clay-limestone soils that provide both structure and a marked mineral imprint. Old vines give naturally low yields, producing small, concentrated berries with intense flavour and excellent acidity. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea brings cooling breezes, ensuring slow, even ripening and preserving tension.

Winery

Grapes are hand-harvested in small crates and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place mainly in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatics, with a portion sometimes matured on the lees in larger oak for additional texture. Lees ageing in tank enhances mouthfeel and complexity without compromising Verdicchio’s purity. The result is a deep, structured white that can be enjoyed young but also evolves beautifully with bottle age.
