Producer
Poggio Antico is one of Montalcino’s most acclaimed boutique estates, celebrated for its high-altitude vineyards and classical Brunello style. Founded in the 1970s and now considered among the top producers in the region, Poggio Antico combines traditional winemaking with extreme attention to detail.
Vineyard
Sitting at around 450 metres above sea level, Poggio Antico is one of the highest vineyard sites in Montalcino. The elevation results in cooler nights, slower ripening and high natural acidity — essential for age-worthy Brunello. The soils are a mix of calcareous marl and rocky galestro, ensuring exceptional structure and aromatic precision.
Winery
Vinification is traditional, with fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks followed by prolonged ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. This approach emphasises purity, balance and terroir-driven character. Extended bottle ageing before release ensures finesse and longevity.
