Producer
Cantine del Notaio is a relatively new winery, located amidst the volcanic landscape of Mount Vulture. It was born in 1998 from the vision of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti and his wife Marcella, who set out to restore the estate that once belonged to Gerardo’s grandfather. After years of research and experimentation with the Aglianico variety, they are achieving notable results with both red and white wines.
Vineyard
Situated at 450-600 metres above sea level, the vineyards are planted in the volcanic soil around the extinct volcano of Vulture. The vines range from four to sixty years old and are planted at five thousand plants per hectare. No green harvest is necessary as yields are naturally low; the grapes were hand-picked at the end of November and beginning of December.
Winery
The must was fermented with a thirty-day maceration, then aged for twelve months in new barriques and tonneaux, followed by a further twelve months in second-fill barrels, and another twenty-four months in bottle before release.
