Producer
Finca Valpiedra is an estate-bottled Rioja property owned by the Martínez Bujanda family, known for focusing on single-vineyard expressions. Inspired by the concept of Bordeaux châteaux, they cultivate and vinify Finca Valpiedra as a unique terroir, with Cantos de Valpiedra representing a more approachable yet still terroir-driven expression.
Vineyard
The estate lies in a bend of the River Ebro in Rioja Alta, where the soils are covered in river pebbles (cantos) over poor, calcareous subsoils. These stones reflect sunlight, aid drainage and help regulate temperature around the vine roots, encouraging concentration and phenolic ripeness while preserving freshness. Vine age, careful pruning and low yields further improve the quality of the fruit, predominantly Tempranillo with small contributions from other local varieties.
Winery
Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, and fermented in stainless steel with temperature control. Cantos de Valpiedra is aged in oak barrels—often a mix of French and American—for a period sufficient to add structure and spice without overshadowing the fruit. The result is a modern, polished Rioja with clear varietal and site expression.
