Producer
Bodegas Valdemar’s Gran Reserva represents the pinnacle of its classic Rioja range. Produced only in excellent vintages, it reflects Rioja’s historic style of extended barrel and bottle ageing, delivering wines with savoury complexity and graceful evolution. The Valdemar family’s experience across multiple generations informs every decision, from plot selection to ageing regimes.
Vineyard
Old-vine Tempranillo and complementary varieties such as Graciano and Mazuelo are sourced from prime vineyards in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. These sites feature clay-limestone soils, moderate vigour and ideal exposures that enable slow ripening and balanced grapes. Low yields, careful pruning and strict selection are essential to meet the demands of a Gran Reserva profile.
Winery
After fermentation with extended skin contact, the wine is aged for an extended period in oak barrels—traditionally a combination of American and French oak—often for two years or more, followed by lengthy bottle ageing in the cellars. During this time, the wine slowly develops tertiary notes of leather, tobacco and spice, while tannins soften into a fine, silky weave. The result is a complex, harmonious Rioja with excellent longevity.
