Producer
The Quercus wines are made a stone’s throw (a couple of miles, anyway) from Marco Felluga’s Collio vineyards. Goriška Brda is Slovenian for Collio Goriziano, and while these hills may be divided by a political boundary, viticulturally they are one and the same. Angela Muir MW consults on the winemaking, so the result is fresh, modern wines that offer an extra terroir-driven elegance for the price.
Vineyard
The vines are grown on terraces at 80-150 metres above sea level, with exposure varying from east to south-west. Vines are between ten and twenty-five years and grow on loam soils. The vineyards benefit from a sub-Mediterranean climate with a mixture of warm sea air and the influence of cold winds from the Alps. Grapes were harvested exclusively by hand.
Winery
The different varieties were vinified separately, and spent between eight and ten days fermenting in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 25 and 28°C. The wine then spent twelve months maturing in large oak barrels.
