Producer
Casal Caeiro is a quality-focused producer in Rías Baixas, specialising in Albariño. The estate’s philosophy centres on capturing the freshness and maritime character of Galicia’s Atlantic vineyards while using techniques such as lees ageing to build texture and complexity. Production is relatively small, allowing close attention to every detail.
Vineyard
Albariño vines are planted on granitic, sandy soils close to the Atlantic Ocean. These free-draining soils and the cool, humid climate give naturally low yields and intense aromatics. Pergola training is often used to promote airflow and reduce disease pressure in the damp maritime environment. The result is grapes with high natural acidity, lively citrus notes and a distinct mineral edge.
Winery
Grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at cool temperatures, followed by an extended period “sobre lías” (on the lees). Regular lees stirring may be used to develop a creamier texture and subtle pastry notes, while retaining Albariño’s precision and salinity. The final wine is both refreshing and texturally engaging.
