Producer
Founded in 1962 and revitalised after Georgian independence, Tbilvino is one of Georgia’s leading producers, known for combining centuries-old winemaking traditions with modern precision. The winery has established a strong reputation for championing indigenous grape varieties, particularly Rkatsiteli and Saperavi, and for its dedication to crafting wines that authentically reflect the country’s unique terroirs. With vineyards across premium Georgian regions and a deep commitment to quality, Tbilvino continues to be a major force in elevating Georgian wine on the global stage.
Vineyard
The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the Kakheti region, Georgia’s foremost wine-growing area. Here, the warm continental climate, abundant sunlight, and mineral-rich alluvial soils provide ideal conditions for cultivating Rkatsiteli, one of the world’s oldest grape varieties. Low-intervention vineyard practices allow the fruit to develop naturally high acidity and complex aromatic character, perfect for the traditional qvevri style.
Winery
True to ancient Georgian tradition, the hand-harvested grapes are fermented and macerated in clay qvevri vessels buried underground. The wine remains on its skins, seeds, and sometimes stems for an extended period, extracting natural tannins, deep colour, and remarkable texture. Following fermentation, the wine continues to mature in qvevri, allowing gentle oxygen exchange that enhances complexity while preserving purity of fruit. This meticulous method results in a wine that is aromatic, structured, and unmistakeably Georgian, showcasing the timeless character of both Rkatsiteli and the qvevri technique.
