Producer
Having honed his winemaking skills around the globe, Quinta da Cassa’s winemaker Rui Madeira has returned to the land of his birth to work with the indigenous varieties and spectacular vineyards of the Douro. The estate is found in the upper Douro, on the river ́s left bank, amongst the grade-a vineyards where the best vintage ports are made. Here the combination of old vines and high altitudes give his wines the balance, poise and sense of place that is so often lacking in the region.
Vineyard
The grapes come from South facing, terraced vineyards in the upper Douro. The vineyards are planted at 450 metres above sea level, with an average vine age of twelve years.
Winery
After hand picking and gentle crushing, fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Following this, the wine was aged for a further eight months, predominatly in stainless steel, with a proportion of the wine undergoing three months ageing in French and American oak.
