Beat the Heat this Summer with this Authentic Gelato Recipe

Learn how to make delicious ice cream from scratch with our authentic Italian gelato recipe. Ice cream cones at the ready!

Summer is finally here, and despite the questionable weather, we’re more than ready to celebrate. And what better way to do so than with a bowl of refreshing, fruity homemade gelato? An age-old Italian delicacy dating back as far as the late 1600s, gelato is ice cream’s softer, denser cousin, and is also lower in fat content. Whether you’re a fan of creamy, rich flavours such as coffee or caramel, or love to cool down with a fruity treat, we guarantee you’ll adore this easy gelato recipe.

Making homemade gelato is actually much simpler than it may appear – and, no, you don’t need any fancy, expensive equipment! All you need is a blender, a knife, and your dessert stomach (because we all know that there’s a separate stomach when it comes to finding room for pudding). If you’ve been craving the iconic flavours of Italy this summer, then make sure to save this recipe. Your family and friends will thank you for it – trust us!

Order your fresh strawberries from us.

Ingredients:

  • 400-500g fresh strawberries
  • 2tsp caster sugar or 5ml sugar syrup
  • 75ml whipping cream or 75ml whole milk

Equipment:

  • Knife
  • Blender
  • Chopping board

Method:

  1. Chop the strawberries into small cubes and place in the freezer for at least 12 hours (any longer than 3 days will cause ice crystals to form, which will ruin the fruit).
  2. Once the strawberries are ready, pour them into a blender along with the cream/milk. Add the sugar/sugar syrup and replace the lid.
  3. Blend everything at medium speed (high speed will make the fruit too warm) until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  4. Scoop into a bowl and enjoy!
