Whether it’s the crisp mornings, darker evenings, or fiery colours, autumn is undeniably beautiful. It’s also a great excuse to try out a whole bunch of new seasonal recipes!

Often characterised by flavours like pumpkin, cinnamon, and ginger, autumn has its own distinct palate – particularly when it comes to desserts. With produce such as apples, blackberries, plums, and pears all coming to fruition (if you’ll excuse the pun) during this season, it’s time to get creative in the kitchen. The perfect way to spend a rainy weekend, take a look at these three autumn inspired desserts for you to make at home!

Apple and Blackberry Crumble

The ideal autumn inspired dessert that your family and friends will love, this apple and blackberry crumble is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser. It’s also incredibly easy and quick to make! To make the crumble topping, simply add softened butter to a mixture of flour and caster sugar and rub between your fingers until it has a breadcrumb-like consistency. For the fruit compote, try stirring cubes of delicious Royal Gala apples into a pan with butter and sugar, later adding blackberries and, if you like, a pinch of cinnamon.

Ginger Biscuits

Another incredibly quick and easy recipe, these crunchy ginger biscuits are the perfect accompaniment to your afternoon cuppa. Use both ground and fresh ginger to give your biscuits a flavoursome kick, mixing with brown sugar, golden syrup, flour, egg, and bicarb of soda. Try this recipe here!

Pumpkin Pie

A dessert you’ll probably have seen in USA-based films and TV shows, pumpkin pie is a Thanksgiving staple, often enjoyed after a hearty dinner. Using shortcrust pastry, roll it out and line a loose-bottomed baking tin and cook until golden and crispy. Meanwhile, boil your pumpkin before sieving into a bowl, then mixing with salt, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, as well as butter, eggs and milk. Stir everything to combine and pour into the pastry case, before baking, then leaving to cool.

Serve your delicious pumpkin pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
