Vignaferrovia is Pian delle Vigne’s most important single-vineyard wine, produced only in exceptional vintages. The wine represents the pinnacle of Antinori’s work in Montalcino, combining tradition with extensive vineyard knowledge.
Vineyard
The Vignaferrovia parcel lies near the old railway line and sits at a slightly higher elevation than other estate plots. Soils are a mix of marl, clay and limestone with excellent drainage. Old vines naturally yield small, concentrated berries. Cooler nighttime temperatures at this site enhance elegance and longevity.
Winery
Fermentation is slow and controlled, followed by exceptionally long maceration to ensure structure worthy of a Riserva. Ageing occurs in large Slavonian oak for several years, with extended bottle maturation. Only small quantities are released, making it one of Antinori’s rarest wines.
