Appetizer: Hot Dog Mummies

An incredibly simple idea that will go down a treat with kids and adults alike, these hot dog mummies can be created using either cocktail sausages or regular sausages, and take roughly 30 minutes to prepare and cook. Cut long, thin strips of puff pastry using a pizza cutter and use these to wrap around the sausage like a mummy, leaving a thin space for the eyes. Place the wrapped sausages in the oven for 15-18 minutes before taking out, leaving to cool, and dabbing two dots of your chosen condiment for the eyes.

Main: Pumpkin Spider’s Web Soup

One of the autumn season’s most well-loved ingredients, pumpkin is versatile, delicious, and unique, and can be used to make both savoury and sweet dishes. This Halloween recipe idea is ideal for a cosy lunch, or even for a quick family dinner, and is easy to recreate. Gently pan-fry chopped onions in olive oil, before adding chopped pumpkin to the pan and cooking until soft. Cover with chicken or vegetable stock and season to taste, and bring to the boil. Add double cream, before then blending everything in a food processor.

Once the soup has been served into bowls, drizzle double cream in a spiral shape onto the soup’s surface, before then pulling outwards from the middle using a cocktail stick to create the spider’s web effect. Serve with fresh, crusty bread!

Dessert: Homemade Toffee Apples

A traditional Halloween recipe idea, these homemade toffee apples will give your spooky evening in a retro twist, and are the perfect accompaniment to a scary movie. They can also be personalised to suit your family’s individual tastes! Take some Granny Smith apples and place them in a large bowl of boiling water to remove the waxy coating, before drying them and piercing with a skewer or lolly stick.

To make the toffee, mix 400g golden caster sugar into a pan with 100ml water over a medium heat, and add a splash of vinegar and syrup once the sugar has dissolved. When the toffee reaches 150C, dip in the apples and leave to set on parchment paper, quickly sprinkling with any desired topping.
