A deep and dense example of Cabernet Franc, brimming with black fruit, plum and dark chocolate flavours alongside notes of vanilla and clove. The rich, mouthfilling and velvety tannins are perfectly complemented by a refreshing acidity which accentuates the freshness of the fruit.

This range reflects the exciting developments taking place in Chile’s wine scene today and draws on the extensive experience of winemakers from across Grupo Belén’s estates. The wines are made in extremely limited quantities from unconventional varieties such as Carignan, Cinsault and País and employ the latest winemaking innovations, such as concrete eggs and amphorae. These handmade wines are a perfect example of Morandé’s pioneering spirit.

Vineyard

The Cabernet Franc is a rare French clone, planted in 1997 at the San Bernardo estate in Maipo. The vines are planted at a high density on vertical trellises and double guyot pruned, with green harvesting to ensure only one cluster per shoot. The Carignan grapes come from vineyards in Maule. The grapes were harvested by hand into ten kilogram boxes.

Winery

After cold soaking at 5°C for five days a Bordeaux-style vinification was carried out to achieve good tannin extraction, with daily pumpovers and delestage. Temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation took place at 26 to 28°C, with a total maceration time of of thirty-two to thirty-five days. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in barrel, and the wine was then aged for a further sixteen months in French oak barriques, thirty-three percent of which were new.
