The nose gives a mix of ripe pineapples, citrus and stone fruits. These flavours continue on the palate, where they are complemented by a savoury, mineral streak. Full-bodied and with a rich, mouth-filling texture lifted by a refreshing acidity on the long, harmonious finish.

Producer

Lievland is one of Stellenbosch’s most historically important farms, and the property in its current form dates back to 1934, when it was purchased by Baron and Baroness Von Stiernhjelm from Latvia. In late 2017, José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh, two of the South African wine industry’s leading lights, purchased the estate and they have since set about an extensive re-planting program and re-constructing the cellars. The farm is located in a favourable position on the north-western slope of the Simonsberg Mountain; and its sheltered position, with cooler than-average conditions for Stellenbosch, are ideal for high-quality wine production.

Vineyard

Grapes come from two dry-farmed bush-vine vineyards in Agter-Paarl, one planted in 1976 on a south-facing slope and the other planted in 1983. The grapes were all hand picked.

Winery

After de-stemming and pressing, the juice was left to settle overnight, before being racked off the gross lees, with a small amount of the fine lees added back. Fifty percent of the juice was then transferred to stainless steel tanks, with the balance going into old oak for a temperature controlled fermentation at 14-16°C lasting fourteen days. The wine was then left on its lees for two months before bottling.
