Producer

A relatively young estate, Château Gloria was founded in 1942 by Henri Martin, the mayor of Saint-Julien for forty years. Today, the vineyard covers forty-four hectares and is divided into three areas, in the southern, western and northern parts of the appellation.

Vineyard

The entire vineyard area of Gloria once belonged to various classed growth châteaux, though thanks to idiosyncratic Bordeaux rules, Gloria itself trades on reputation alone. The soils are stony, gravelly, freedraining: typical of the northern Médoc. Vines are between thirty and eighty years old.

Winery

Following a typical Bordeaux fermentation, the wine is given fifteen to thirty days’ maceration, then transferred to barrel for fourteen months’ ageing, with forty percent new wood.
