Producer
Château Cantemerle is a fifth growth situated in the commune of Macau, just south of Margaux. Viticulture at the estate can be traced back to 1354, long before the more famous reaches of the northern Médoc were planted.
Vineyard
The eighty-seven hectare vineyard averages thirty years old with vines planted on sandy/gravelly soils. Yields are controlled with bunch thinning in early July and a green harvest after veraison; deleafing improves sun exposure. The grapes are hand harvested.
Winery
Grapes were sorted on arrival at the winery, and then destemmed, crushed and transferred to conical wooden vats for fermentation, with 28-30 days’ maceration. The wine was aged for twelve months in barriques, with 40% new, and underwent a light fining and no filtration before bottling.
